A: Hi, I’m Andrew

S: and I’m Steph.

Welcome to our Norfolk Christmas Countdown - 24 days of festive stories about Norfolk, with a bonus episode on Christmas Day.

Each day from now until Christmas we’ll be dropping a bite-sized portion of Chistmassy Norfolkness to get you in the holiday spirit.

What are we starting with Andrew?

A: Well Norfolk Enjoyers, if you are like us you will absolutely LOVE Christmas Lights.

So, I thought that would be the BEST and most SPARKLY place to kick things off.

Each year we like to head out to enjoy the festive lights in Norwich and along the North Norfolk Coast during December. Being in Norwich, we have obviously seen the Norwich switch on many times and also take time to check out the Jarrolds display too.

Some of the famous people who have switched the Norwich lights on have included Olivia Colman, Steve Coogan (as Alan Partridge), Jake Humphrey, Todd Cantwell, the ENTIRE Norwich City team in 1998, and in a UNIQUE tribute in 2020, the lights were switched on by a group of key workers from our community, including a nurse, a firefighter, a police officer, and an air ambulance doctor.

If sustainability is a key factor for you, apparently, all public Christmas light displays in Norwich are powered by 100% renewable energy.

Now Steph here has a close link to the Norwich Christmas lights…

S: Yes, My Dad used to be an electrician for Norwich City Council and he was involved with the Norwich Christmas lights switch ons.

A: Shall we share the secret he told us?

S: Oooh… I don’t know. Maybe we should keep the magic secret!

A: Another lights switch on that we have been to was Burnham Market - a wonderful

experience. Amanda Holden and Lisa Faulkner have switched these lights on and the most famous person of all to do it - Father Christmas.

Where else do we love to see a Christmassy Norfolk, Steph?

S: We love the Lights in Wells, including their fab crab and lobster pot tree, Blakeney Hotel looks amazing under dark skies, Cromer…
