A: Yes, and this time we are going all Royal. Did you know Listeners, Norfolk has a
Longstanding connection to Royal Christmas celebrations?
The first Christmas celebrated in Norfolk as a significant event was in 1121 AD when King Henry I spent the festive season at Norwich Castle. A more recent and well-known tradition is the royal family's Christmas gathering at Sandringham, which began in 1870 under the then Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), but this became a regular tradition in 1988 under Queen Elizabeth II.
Also, The Queen's 1957 Christmas Broadcast was an historic event, as it was the first to be televised. It was also the 25th anniversary of the first Christmas Broadcast on the radio. Our connection…The broadcast was made live from the Long Library at Sandringham, Norfolk.
