The Cinema City Ghost. Now this ghost story is very close to our hearts because it's something that we were directly connected with in that in July 2009, in Cinema City in Norwich, which is housed in the very ancient 16th century Suckling house, Andrew photographed what, to all intents and purposes, could look like a ghost. Now, the image is a dim, shadowy, human like figure. You can sort of see two legs in the centre of the photo.
It's transparent. It's a little bit blurred, but there is an outline and there is some definition. And you could almost suggest if you look hard enough that they're wearing perhaps what we'd imagine is Tudor costume, so breeches, a, what looks like a red jacket could even possibly be wearing a hat. The figure looks like they're possibly walking, possibly bending, possibly bent. Andrew, set the scene for us. Tell us how you took this photograph and what was happening.
Well, it was it was very late night. I think it was around about 10, half 10 at night. There was no films showing at the time and all the people that were left, most people had gone home in the restaurant wasn't serving anymore. There was a chef in the kitchen and there was the manager there as well. And I was in the courtyard and there's some steps in the courtyard that lead up.
So I was at the top of those steps and I had a tripod who have a camera because I knew I was taking some, obviously night photos.
Were you shooting down into the the courtyard in the picture looks very pretty and twinkly and sparking. Obviously, it's summer so that makes a lovely photo.
Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah, so I was up there and I wanted to capture all the twinkly lights and how beautiful it looked to sit out there in the evening. So, yeah, I had on the tripod adequate through the camera. I knew there was going to obviously be a slightly longer exposure, but it wasn't too long, actually. And I was looking down into the courtyard and I pressed to take the image and that was it.
And when you took the photo, which we should say, so it was on a Canon SLR digital camera, not a phone, a sort of proper SLR. When you when you took the photo, did you see anyone present in the courtyard?
No. No. Nobody passed through the courtyard at all. I was looking - I was not looking through the camera. I was actually looking over the camera, into the courtyard when I pressed it, because I'd set it all up.
And it was empty?
Yes.
Okay, so what do you think?
Uh. That's a very difficult question.
Did you see this?
I didn't see it when I looked back at the image.
Yeah.
Because I looked back to make sure I'd captured image.
Yeah, yeah.
And I didn't see it.
Yes, yeah. We only saw it - I think we saw it when we were processing the images, didn't we?
Yeah, because I took a couple.
Yes, yeah. And the one before didn't have anything in it. Yeah. And then this one did.
Yes. The one after that didn't.
Yeah, I remember now.
And also it's quite, it's actually a wider shot than the one we cropped into to show the image, I think. And so if you search the image up of the Cinema City Ghost by Andrew Kitt, you can find it online and we've also got it on our website in various places. And while we didn't enhance it, we've cropped in so that you can see it not much, but a little bit. And I think, yeah, there are a sequence of photos and the ones immediately before and off, there's no one there.
Yeah. Yeah.
Do you think someone could have walked through the photo in that time? Your personal opinion, honestly, honestly.
Yeah, my personal opinion, all that was there was myself and two others.
On the site?
Yeah, on the site. It wasn't somebody, nobody walked in through the archway there because that's one of the entrances in the cinema city and nobody walked from the kitchen because it's from the kitchen to the the dining rooms, basically.
Yeah, yeah.
And nobody walked nobody walked across it. Nobody walked at all.
Very odd. Very odd indeed. Well, certainly if anywhere were to have ghosts in, Nor, this would be a plum location, given its history.
And when we saw the image, it gave me a bit of a, you know. chill on back of my neck.
Hairs on the back of your neck that feeling. Well, as I say, if you want to have a look at the image of yourself, do if you Google Cinema City Ghost, you'll find it.
We'll also try and share it on our socials around the time, this episode goes out.
