The Acle Straight.

The Acle Straight opened in 1831, and as the name states, it is exceptionally straight with only a curve where the Halvergate road joins kind of in the middle. 

It is considered one of Norfolk's most haunted roads, famous for phantom figures, spectral carriages, and apparent time slips. 

A driver passing the Halvergate curve heading to Acle, watched in horror as a middle- aged man walked out into the centre of the road from the right hand side and into the path of their car. With no time to stop, the figure turned to look at the driver, and as he did so, the car passed straight through him. 

Other drivers have reported seeing a phantom horse and cart crossing the road directly in the path of oncoming vehicles, while others have spoken of having a sudden impulse to break violently for no apparent reason. 

Two motorists, in 19179, apparently witnessed a grand Regency style house lit up, and through the windows they could see people dancing inside, upon returning later, nothing was there, except empty marshland. 


Now, we travel this road quite a few times during the year, especially if we're going to Gorston or Yarmouth. We are always on the lookout for the odd and the spooky. So far, nothing to report.
